International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization with the mission of empowering women in the international coffee community to achieve gender equality and sustainable lives, and to encourage and recognize the participation of women in all aspects of the coffee industry. Temple Coffee is excited to make it’s second annual donation in support of the IWCA.
WHAT DOES IWCA DO?
Connect women to solve problems in the coffee industry. IWCA provides what the World Bank identifies as the four elements of empowerment: access to information, inclusion, accountability, and local organizational capacity.
To accomplish this, IWCA focuses resources on five interventions at the chapter and global level:
1. Chapter Operations and Development
2. Community Improvement
3. Coffee Training and Education
4. Capital and Construction Development
5. Advocacy and Policy Influence
Temple Coffee believes in gender balance and opportunities for all. By supporting IWCA’s pillar of coffee training and education, we’re ensuring new coffee professionals at “origin” receive and have the opportunities to be successful, which is part of making the coffee sector 100% sustainable.
Temple accrues its IWCA donation from our water bottle program. 100% of the profits from our Temple branded bottled water sales are given to the IWCA. In 2017, the funds will be used to sponsor a 19-year-old woman from India to attend and participate at the All Stars Barista Competition during the VI IWCA International Convention in Mexico City in August.
At Temple, we think local and act global. We are proud to support IWCA as the organization that leads the conversation about gender balance and women economic empowerment. They have the tools to impact the lives of women coffee farmers, roasters, and baristas, bringing inclusiveness to the coffee sector around the world.
