Juicy, sweet, and clean, this medium bodied coffee has a slight lingering finish. It reveals delicate notes of floral orange blossom, bright stone fruit characteristics like apricot, plus sweet and nutty hints of golden raisin. A perfect morning or afternoon coffee.

This coffee was won this past August in the second annual One of a Kind Guatemala Coffee Auction. Story

In 2017, the Falla family purchased the farm Finca El Retiro in the developing Fraijanes region of Guatemala. Renamed La Quina, the new coffee farm covers 100 hectares of land and sits at an altitude of 1700 meters above sea level. The Falla family has garnered over 130 years of specialty coffee experience, having been in the industry throughout that time producing coffee in the Antigua region. Now the family has branched out to Fraijanes, where the high altitude, mineral rich volcanic soil, and opportunities for expansion in the area have led the family to establish their next coffee venture.

Since acquiring La Quina in 2017, the Falla family has continued to invest in the farm through ongoing renovations, planting Bourbon and Caturra variety coffee trees, and utilizing grevillea trees for shade management.

This particular lot was won this past August in the second annual One of a Kind Guatemala Coffee Auction. During this auction, noteworthy coffee producers submit their high-ranking coffees, to be bid on during a private auction in which Temple was invited to participate. We were fortunate to have won this 100% Bourbon, washed process coffee from La Quina, which ranked 7 out of 15 top ranked coffees, with a high score of 88.36.

It is no surprise that this coffee from the Falla family would receive such an excellent score, given their long and esteemed presence in specialty coffee production. Led by fourth generation producer Estuardo Falla, the family takes particular care slowly cultivating their coffee trees. They patiently allow the natural sugars and acidity to develop in the coffee cherries to peak ripeness, upon which time they selectively pick the best cherries for processing. The cherries are then brought to Antigua to the Falla family’s central wet mill, where their microlots are processed separately, pulped and fermented for up to 2 days at cool temperatures, and then dried on shaded raised African beds.

This is our second year participating in the One of a Kind Guatemala Coffee Auction, and our first time offering coffee from the Fraijanes region. We’re thrilled to have obtained this coffee from the Falla family’s new farm Finca La Quina, continuing a long and esteemed tradition producing some of the most exceptional coffees in Guatemala.
