This offering comes to us from Chimaltenango, Guatemala, a small coffee growing region located about 12 miles northwest of Antigua. The coffee in Chimaltenango is grown and harvested mostly by indigenous smallholder producers in the region. Once picked, the ripe coffee cherries are brought to Antigua, where the coffee is processed at Beneficio Bella Vista. Since 2016, Temple Coffee has travelled to Antigua to meet with Luis Pedro Zelaya, the owner of Beneficio Bella Vista. With expert guidance from Zelaya and his team, we select various lots of coffee from Los Santos, a name which references the coffees sourced from Chimaltenango by Beneficio Bella Vista. In addition to expanding their operation, Zelaya and his team place a firm focus on increasing the quality of their product year after year. In addition to the recognition they receive for their coffee, the Bella Vista team has solidified their name in the world of specialty coffee, thanks in part to the efforts of their Quality Control Specialist and Q Grader, Dulce Elena Barrera Giron. From 2017 to 2019, Dulce won first place at the Cup Tasters Guatemala competition. In 2019, Dulce placed 4th in the world at the World Cup Taster's Championship in Berlin, Germany. The results of the ongoing work by Dulce, Luis Pedro Zelaya, and the rest of the Beneficio Bella Vista team is apparent in their remarkable coffee. We're excited to offer this coffee from Los Santos and to showcase the hard work and superior product of Beneficio Bella Vista.
