Gondo Coffee Factory was established in 1998 in the Kihoya subregion, Murang’a County’s Mathioya District. Located near Mt. Kenya, there is lush wildlife and native forest in the surrounding area. The Gondo Factory is comprised of 727 coffee producers who each tend to 1 hectare of land. After carefully tending their coffee trees all season, Gondo’s producers selectively hand-pick the ripe, red cherries as they reach perfection, and deliver them to the Gondo washing stations. Even with all that care, they give a second post-harvest pass, separating ripe cherries from underripe, overripe, and any foreign matter that makes it into the mix. Gondo's meticulous selection process enables us to deliver one of the highest quality coffees that Kenya has to offer. Harvested cherries are pulped the same day at the wet mill using water from the nearby Kananahu stream, which is then recirculated before disposal to avoid acidification of local waterways. The beans are fermented for 16-18 hours, then washed and sun-dried on raised beds for 14 days. We were really excited to add this to our lineup. Enjoy!
