FLAVOR: Blackberry, Pecan, Chantilly Cream
Festive flavors abound with this blend, starting with bright, lightly tart notes of blackberry and cherry that emanate from the Kenya component. A nutty sweetness follows, similar to pecan and maple syrup, from the Colombia and Guatemala components. This full-bodied blend provides a rich texture with luscious notes of Chantilly cream. The full body is balanced by a crisp finish, creating a well-rounded drinking experience to be enjoyed by both the novice coffee drinker and coffee connoisseur. Each cheery cup is sure to bring the perfect amount of holiday bliss all season long.
Each year, we set out to create an exciting new version of our Festivity Blend for the holidays. We began working on this Festivity Blend in January, when we started searching for special coffees as the new crop arrived. We started by sampling, tasting, and blending various different coffees then repeating this process over and over until we discovered a remarkable flavor profile. Our goal each year with the Festivity Blend is to create a unique blend that is greater than the sum of its parts; a harmonious blend that kindles a sense of holiday warmth, coziness, and cheer.
The first component comes from the mountainous region of San Pedro Necta of Huehuetenango, Guatemala near the border of Chiapas, Mexico. We selected this component from a community coffee project named Txo’l Witz, translated as “between hills” from the Mam dialect of the Mayan language. The Txo’l Witz project was created to provide better market opportunities to small producers in the San Pedro Necta area, as well as improve overall product quality through training and education. This coffee offers a lively, sweet, and silky quality perfect for this year’s Festivity Blend.
Bringing deep chocolate notes and a full body is the second coffee used in this blend from Nariño, Colombia. Multiple small producers contributed their product to this component, which were collected and processed by the Cafe Occidente Cooperative located in the Yacuanquer municipality. This component is a blended lot made up of Castillo and Caturra varieties, grown between 1900-2200 MASL. The coffee is washed and fermented for 14-16 hours before drying on patios for 12 days. Providing familiar yet rich tasting notes, this coffee adds balance and complexity to the blend.
To round out the Festivity Blend is a lush and juicy coffee from Nyeri, Kenya. This coffee is the accumulation of coffees from approximately 1400 farmer members of Ndaroini, a noteworthy washing station that first began operation in 1984. This is the second year that we have featured Ndaroini coffee as we appreciate the vibrant, fruit-like sweetness that is characteristic of the offerings there. This vibrant component brings a cheery aspect to the blend, which gives our Festivity Blend the joyful quality we strive for each year.
As the holidays approach and winter arrives, we look forward to the simple pleasures of enjoying a comforting cup of coffee with friends and family. We hope our Festivity Blend gives you and your loved ones a holiday season full of bliss and comfort.
