Notes of almond-like Amaretto lead the cup, supported by bright grapefruit acidity and a refreshing touch of fresh ginger. The result is a clean, crisp profile with a vibrant, lively finish.

Story

Bali, a small island province of Indonesia, is a submerged volcanic peak located just off the eastern coast of Java, and is home to many small, family-owned coffee farms. Bali Kintamani Natural is sourced from farms in the Kintamani highlands. Here coffee trees are grown in the rich volcanic soils of Mount Agung alongside citrus trees which not only provide shade but are an additional source of income for farmers. The producers who grow Kintamani Natural belong to cooperative organizations known as Subak Abian, founded on the Hindu philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, the “three causes of happiness.” These cooperatives foster community through shared agricultural and social activities and have been certified Organic since 2008. Pesticides are never used, and all fertilizers are 100% organic. Farmers grow almost exclusively heirloom Arabica varieties, primarily Typica and Bourbon. Shade trees such as Erythrina, tangerine, and orange improve yield and cup quality while enhancing wildlife habitat. The concept of producing a naturally processed coffee was introduced during coffee importer Royal’s origin trip in 2009 as a response to local water scarcity. The project has since been fully implemented with exceptional results. Kintamani Natural is 100% sun-dried on raised beds, which allow for rapid and even drying in Bali’s high-altitude sunshine and constant island breeze. The resulting cup is distinctive, offering a rich, buttery mouthfeel while retaining Indonesia’s signature full-bodied, savory character.
